ATMA invites its alumni to join the staff of its Phase 2 Psilocybin Clinical Trial exploring group and individual administration setting to treat major depressive disorder in mental health professionals. After the completion of our Phase 2 clinical trial, ATMA plans to lead a Phase 3 trial and advance a group administration protocol approval through a New Drug Submission with Health Canada. Your contribution as trial staff will help move forward this important initiative that will allow many Canadians in need of this treatment to gain access, and receive it in an effective, accessible and affordable manner. Phase II Study Overview

Staff therapists needed: Approximately 200
Trial duration for therapist staff: Approximately 12 months
Number of Participants: 200
Sites:Calgary, AB; Vancouver, BC; London, ON
Recommended study schedule and schematic: Friday – preparation session (visit 1, ~3 hours) Saturday & Sunday – dosing days (visit 2, ~9 hours/day)
Monday – integration days (visit 3, ~3 hours)
Staff therapists may be utilized for all four days (Lead) or just two dosing
days (Support), depending on availability.
Individual Staffing: 1 dosing participant, 2 therapists (1 Lead, 1 Support)
Group Staffing: 5 dosing participants, 5 lead therapists, 5 support
therapists (optional), 2 non-participant observers (optional, this role will be
further discussed closer to clinical trial intake)

Job Description

In this position, you will play an important role in helping clinical trial participants navigate their psychedelic experiences with psilocybin-assisted therapy. You will work in a collaborative and supportive environment with the clinical trial team to provide participants with a safe, therapeutic space for their experience. You will be part of the clinical trial team investigating the efficacy of psilocybin in treating frontline mental healthcare workers with Major Depressive Disorder in group and individual settings. Ideal candidates for this position will have an interest in the healing potential of psychedelic medicines and a desire to learn and grow within this emerging field.

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee clinical trial participant’s psychedelic sessions (including preparatory, dosing, and integration sessions), ensuring a safe and supportive environment, while guiding participants through their experiences.
  2. Be prepared to respond to and manage any emotional or psychological distress that may arise during sessions, using therapeutic techniques to provide immediate support.
  3. Warm, self-aware, embodied, regulated therapeutic presence.
  4. Clear communication, sound judgment, and empathic ability to establish therapeutic relationships.
  5. Part-time, willing to work weekends, reliable.
  6. Adhere to all rules and regulations around clinical trials, and ethical and professional practice as set by their respective college/association.
  7. Strong ethical grounding and the ability to uphold high standards of professional conduct, particularly in the context of psychedelic therapy.

Qualifications:

Lead Therapist
  • Licensed to provide psychotherapy by a regulatory body in the province of the clinical trial site.
  • Have completed ATMA Introduction to Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy course at minimum. 
  • Completion of ATMA Advanced Psychedelic Training is preferred. 
  • Equivalent training to ATMA Advanced Psychedelic Training would be considered.
  • ATMA CENA clinic therapists meeting the qualifications above are given preferential status.
Support Therapist
  • Licensed therapists residing in a province that does not have a clinical trial site for this Phase 2 or unlicensed therapists that meet the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association’s Canadian Certified Counsellor credentials.
  • Have completed ATMA Introduction to Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy course at minimum. 
  • Completion of ATMA Advanced Psychedelic Training is preferred. 
  • Equivalent training to ATMA Advanced Psychedelic Training would be considered.
  • ATMA CENA clinic therapists meeting the qualifications above are given preferential status.
The staff therapist positions (Lead and Support) are an experience opportunity for therapists training to work in the field of psychedelic-assisted therapy where few above ground opportunities to work with psilocybin exist.
ATMA’s objective is to be able to run a cost-effective clinical trial in order to provide affordable commercialized psilocybin product to Canadians and beyond.
Therapists cannot also be participants in the clinical trial. You may apply to both, but can only participate in one category.
