Ketamine-Assisted Therapy For Addiction with Dr. Aviva Fohrer

November 16, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Thursday November 16, 2023 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm MST

Ketamine possesses the potential to disrupt detrimental behavioral patterns, particularly those intertwined with substance use disorder. Although one of its adverse effects involves interference with memory formation, within the context of substance use disorder, this attribute can potentially manifest as a beneficial side effect. In essence, it can be employed to override the memories that drive substance use and associated behaviors.

In two separate clinical trials—one investigating cocaine addiction and the other focusing on alcohol dependency—it was observed that individuals who received ketamine in conjunction with therapy, known as ketamine-assisted therapy (KAT), achieved superior outcomes compared to those who underwent therapy without ketamine intervention.

In both of these studies, the researchers arrived at the consensus that ketamine reduced the likelihood of relapse or reversion to addiction.

While further research is imperative to comprehensively understand the impact of ketamine on addiction, there is promising evidence to suggest that it may influence the brain’s response to cravings, enhance motivation to quit substance use, and exert control over behavioral reactions. Ketamine treatment might also augment the effectiveness of behavioral therapy, a pivotal component in the process of overcoming addiction.

Join Reverdi Darda of Cena Life and Dr. Aviva Fohrer of Thalia Medical Center as they engage in a discussion centered on tangible, positive outcomes resulting from the utilization of KAT in addiction treatment. Dr. Fohrer, with two decades of experience as a medical doctor specializing in addiction, will share her noteworthy successes in implementing KAT within her practice. Additionally, Dr. Fohrer will delve into the topic of training with ATMA for the utilization of KAT in the treatment of addiction.

ATMA will facilitate this live info session with Q&A.
